All About the Abbott Freestyle Libre 2 CGM System

Freestyle Libre 2

What is the Abbott FreeStyle Libre 2 System?

The FreeStyle Libre 2 system eliminates the need for painful routine finger pricks offering real time Optional Glucose Alarms. It lets patients know the minute their glucose is too low or too high with outstanding accuracy in the low glucose range, in fact, it offers 5x more glucose readings than any other CGMs.

Designed to replace the need for routine finger pricks the FreeStyle Libre 2 flash glucose monitoring system is made up of a sensor worn on the back of the upper arm that continuously measures the glucose concentration in the body’s interstitial fluid. You can use the FreeStyle LibreLink app to scan the sensor and monitor glucose levels. See full product specs here.

How Long Does the Abbott FreeStyle Libre 2 Sensor Last?

The small, discreet sensor worn on the back of the upper arm continuously measures the glucose concentration in the body's interstitial fluid. It is worn for up to 14 days and is water-resistant so continues to work while patients shower, swim or exercise. Patients can scan their sensor anytime, anywhere, even through clothing.

How Often to Use the Abbott FreeStyle Libre 2 System for Accurate Results

Patients can use the FreeStyle LibreLink app to start their sensors, monitor their glucose levels and receive optional alarms. For a complete glycaemic picture, patients must scan their FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor every 8 hours.
